Welcome

Newton Abbot Photographic Club was established over seventy years ago and currently has over 60 members from Newton Abbot and the surrounding area of South Devon.

We are keen to welcome new members, whether you are an experienced photographer or a complete beginner.

Join us for photography, fun, and fellowship, while we learn to make the best pictures we can. You are welcome to attend two meetings as a guest before deciding to join.

November

6th               Portrait evening – bring your camera!  Chaz Madge from Exmouth Club will guide us through lighting, angles, hints and tips. Then it’s our turn to try!

Chaz started photography when still at school. He has been an active member of a few clubs over the years. He has been doing Portrait work for over 10 yrs providing images for models’ portfolios, doing workshops for 6 years.

 

13th          WCPF Travelling Members’ Exhibition.  A chance to see acceptances and results of the WCPF annual exhibition.  This includes the winning prints and those accepted but not shown at Bovey Tracey Golf Club

11th          Guest Speaker: Damien Demolder “Street Photography: Light and Life on the Streets”  In this heavily illustrated talk Damien will explain his approach to street photography, and how he uses light and exposure to grab the attention of the viewer. The talk is instructive as well as fun, and you will come away with new concepts to think about and a new way of looking at street photography.  (Sponsored by Panasonic)

 

12th Wed   Street Photography Workshop withDamien Demolder. 

A practical hands-on day learning how to improve your street photography through seeing in new ways. Damien demonstrates a range of principles around using light, finding backgrounds and working in public areas, and then helps the group to find their own way at their own pace. It's suitable for all levels of experience, and is certain to change the way you see and shoot - no matter what subjects you are usually interested in.  Cameras and lenses will be provided, so you only need to bring your imagination.  The workshop will run from 10am - 4pm, £35 per person, venue to be confirmed.

 

18th          Christmas Social and Triptych Competition – 3 related images on an open theme presented on one 40 x 50 cm board

5th               Guest Speaker: Robert Harvey – “Photographing the Diversity of Mammals”.  Wild mammals are amongst the most challenging photographic subjects.  Exploring some of the world’s top wildlife    destinations in search of giant anteaters, gorillas, elephants, wolves, bears and big cats, get up close to create quirky and unusual images

19th     Guest Speaker: Clive Haynes – Clive will draw on material from 2 themes - “Pandora’s Photo-Box of Creativity, Image and Imagination” & “Mono-Culture”.  He will encourage us to open our minds to new ideas, emphasising that there are no 'rules', so we can explore, interpret and re-present the world about us.  He will also show how he translates the world into the essentials of tone, line and form to represent and add drama to subjects.  Check out his excellent website!        www.crhfoto.co.uk

We submit a print panel of 5 images and 5 PDI images taken by 5 different people.  Awards go to Best Panel, Best Digital Set, Best Overall Print and Best Overall Digital.
