EXTERNAL COMPETITION RECORD

Season 2016 – 2017

In the PDI round of the South Devon League, we came second to Exmouth, but closely won the trophy for the overall points gained in this competition over the season.

The good season continued, with an excellent result for DPIC, where we came third out of 56 clubs who entered this South West region WCPF event.

The season started extremely well, with first place in both the PDI Challenge Shield, against Plymouth, Kingsbridge, and Ivybridge, and the Print round of the South Devon League, against Exmouth, Dawlish & Tynemouth, and Crediton, where Christina Burton also won top points with her “Grebe with Catch”.

Season 2015 - 2016

WCPF AV: Two awards for Newton Abbot, with Gordon Aspland gaining second in the Short Category, and Keith Choules a Highly Commended in the Long Category.

South Devon League PDI: The PDI result moved NAPC up to third place overall for the season.

Paul Stevens Trophy: A win against Paignton and Torbay.  Overall top score in PDI went to Christopher Marsham for his image “Eking out a Living”.  This was hosted by Newton Abbot.

WCPF DPIC:  17th out of 56 Clubs.

South Devon League: Fourth place, in the Print Round, to Exmouth, Dawlish & Tynemouth, and Crediton.  This was hosted by Newton Abbot.

PDI Challenge Shield: Third place to Plymouth and Kingsbridge, with Ivybridge coming fourth.

Season 2014 - 2015

Devon Clubs’ Battle: Our print panel this season was “Point to Point”, gaining fifth place, and put together from one of the club outings.  Chris Marsham's "Neck and Neck" was awarded 2nd best print in the competition, and our PDI entry set gained third place overall.

WCPF AV: Three awards for Newton Abbot, with Chris Marsham gaining second in the Long Category, Gordon Aspland a Highly Commended in the Photo Harmony Category, and the Innovation Trophy for Alan Boothman.

South Devon League PDI: Newton Abbot won the PDI round against Exmouth, Dawlish & Tynemouth, and Crediton, finishing second to Exmouth in the season overall.  Congratulations to Chairman Phil in gaining the highest score overall for his image "Barn Owl in Flight".

Paul Stevens Trophy: A win against Paignton and Torbay.  Top scores were gained by Meg Pickup, Philip Gill, and Chris Marsham.

WCPF DPIC:  We maintained our fifth place out of 47 Clubs.  Congratulations to Christina Burton and Chris Marsham for their Highly Commended awards.

South Devon League Prints: Third place, in the Print Round, to Exmouth and Dawlish & Tynemouth, with Crediton coming fourth.  Congratulations, however, to Garnett Showell, for his first place result with “Lest we Forget”.

PDI Challenge Shield: Third place to Plymouth and Ivybridge, with Kingsbridge coming fourth.

Season 2013 - 2014

WCPF AV: Newton Abbot again put in strong contenders for this competition, with Keith Choules gaininga Highly Commended for “Lullaby to Dreams”, and Alan Boothman the first place and Audience Vote for “The Oxford Detectives”.

WCPF DPIC:  An improvement on last year to fifth, out of 55 clubs in the competition.

Top scoring images were Geoff Ashworth’s “Bust”, and Gordon’s “Guitarist”.

Devon Clubs’ Battle

Our print panel this season was “Monochrome Man”, the concept of Alex Graeme, and this was awarded Third place.  Gordon was given Highly Commended for his individual print.  We also received a Highly Commended for our PDI entry.

Local Competitions:  Second place in the three local Competitions:

To Exmouth, in the South Devon League against Exmouth, Crediton, Dawlish & Tynemouth.

To Paignton, in the Paul Stevens Trophy against Paignton and Torbay.

To Plymouth, in the PDI Challenge Shield against Plymouth, Ivybridge, and Kingsbridge.

PAGB Great British Cup:  Disappointing results this season, in both the Open and Nature categories.

April 13th 2013 – WCPF AV Competition

The club had a resounding success in the short AV Category.  Keith Choules took both the Coote Challenge Cup for first place, and the MAD Trophy for the Audience Popular Vote, with his “The Market Gardener” AV.  Plenty of trophy cleaning for Keith this year!

Judy Yates gained third place, in the same category, with “Obby Os!”  Judy has shown a number of her AVs in the club in recent years, and it is great to see her get the recognition she deserves for her often very amusing reflections on life.

Alan Boothman was disappointed that the judges only gave him a Highly Commended in the long AV category – but he is somewhat biased!

March 27th 2013 – SDPL DPI Battle

The DPI round was held at Dawlish, and judged by Brian Galbraith.  DPI scores on the night were NAPC 211, Exmouth 183, D&T 179, and Crediton 174.

This led to a further retention of the trophy, and Newton Abbot total scores, together with prints from November, of 467, against Exmouth 402, Crediton 400, and 388 for Dawlish & Tynemouth.

“Last Post at the General Store”, by Alex Graeme, won the DPI section overall, and Richard Garvey-Williams’ “Piglet” achieved 17 points.

March 19th 2013 – Paul Stevens Trophy

The 3-way competition was held at Newton Abbot, and was judged by Barry Bluer.

Back to 45th from 88, compared with 22nd from 124 last year.  Chris Marsham was top scorer with 12 for his Three Kings S. Georgia

February 11th 2013 – PAGB Great British Cup - Open

2013 was our worst year in this competition, coming 48th, from 106, compared with 14th from 140 last year.

Highest scoring image was Pam Sherren’s Farm in Winter, with 13 pts., whilst 12’s were gained by Pam’s Rush Hour Downpour, Mark’s Audience Participation, and Alan’s Evening Mood.

February 10th 2013 – WCPF inter-club Digital Projected Image Competition “DPIC”

Newton Abbot came 9th out of 49.  Christina scored 12’s for both her Mandrill and Eagle Cry, matched by Richard Garvey-Williams, Chris Marsham, Lynn and Phil, for Wildebeest Stampede, Adults and Chick, The Crossing, and River Dart in Flood.

November 30th 2012 - SDPL Print Battle

The South Devon Photographic League print battle was held at Crediton, and was won by Newton Abbot.

October 16th 2012 – DPI Challenge Shield

This year’s Shield was held at Newton Abbot, against guests Plymouth, Ivybridge, and Kingsbridge.  Giving us a very good start to the season, Newton Abbot won the event for the second time running.

Top image of the night was “Rush Hour Downpour” by Pam Sherren.

April 13th 2012 – SDPL DPI Battle

The Print round of the South Devon Photographic League competition, last November, had left Newton Abbot 9 points behind leader’s Exmouth.

The DPI round was held at Exmouth, and with an astonishing 28 point win on the night, the trophy, for the overall total, was clearly retained.

DPI scores on the night were NAPC 230, Exmouth 202, D&T 184, and Crediton 164.

The icing on the cake came when the top three positions, overall, were won by Gordon (18) for “Tango Dancers”, Phil (19) for “Grey Seal Pup” and Paula (20) for “Flat Racing on the Beach”.

The work of thirteen NAPC members was represented in the fifteen images required.

March 26th 2012 – NAPC v Torbay v Paignton

The 3-way competition was held at Paignton club, and was very well attended by NAPC members.  Some of us joined members from both other clubs for a pre-competition meal, suggested by Paula, at the Thai restaurant, immediately across from the Paignton club venue.  A good sociable start to the competition.

Another good win for Newton Abbot, even after we had some anxious moments when the print section was convincingly won by Torbay.  A 20 by Paula for “Willow Geese and Girl” somewhat rescued the situation.

A 20 for Richard Garvey-Williams, for “Sparring Hippos”, plus a 20 (and top image of the night) for Geoff for “Watching” came together for an excellent DPI score, and the overall win.

For the second running of this event, the “Paul Stevens Shield” was purchased by Judy Yates from the sale of some of his camera equipment, and is now awarded annually to the winning club.  Next years’ event will be held at Newton Abbot.  Perhaps we should meet at the Royal China Restaurant in Queen Street.

February 19th 2012 – WCPF inter-club Digital Projected Image Competition “DPIC”

Newton Abbot came THIRD!  This is our best result since we won this event in 2008.  Scoring was very tough this year.  Our score of 220 put us three points ahead of Bristol, Paignton, and Barnstaple, and three points behind second place Devizes.  Plymouth won with an excellent score of 232.

Our top images were “Antarctic Magic”, by Chris Marsham, with 14, and “Chaffinch and Teasel”, by Paula Graham, with 13.  The work of nine Newton Abbot members was represented, and a total of 50 clubs competed.

This result qualifies Newton Abbot for the national PAGB Inter-Club Projected Digital Image Championship, to be held at the University of Warwick on July 14th 2012.

February 12th 2012 – PAGB Great British Cup – Nature

A significant move forward for Newton Abbot, from 45th last year, to 22nd for this year, out of 124 clubs who entered.  The position is determined from the best ten images.

The outstanding images were Phil’s “Grey Seal Pup”, with top marks of 15, “Antarctic Magic” by Chris Marsham (14) and 13 for “Sparring Hippos” by new member Richard Garvey-Williams.

February 11th 2012 – PAGB Great British Cup - Open

We improved to 14th out of approximately 140 Clubs.  This was the leading position within the Western Counties clubs who entered.  An outstanding points average (over 12) was gained by Gordon for his full selection comprising “Camel Estuary”, “Street Singers”, and “Tango Dancers”.

November 29th - SDPL Print Battle

The South Devon Photographic League print battle was held at Newton Abbot, and was won by Exmouth with 215 points, followed by Newton Abbot with 206, Crediton with 191, and Dawlish & Teignmouth with 178.

Best print in the competition was “Mandrill” (20) by Christina, with “Puffin with Sandeels” achieving third (18) for Phil.  Judge was Brian Galbraith.

May 21st 2011 Devon Clubs Print and Digitally Projected Image Battle

Following last year’s event held at Newton Abbot, Paignton Photographic Club was the host in 2011, with 13 of the Devon clubs taking part in the DPI section, and 11 in the print panels.

The Club Print Panel entry was on the theme of “Steam Gala”.  The five prints included were authored by Philip Gill, Christina Burton, Alan Chevis, Chris Brown and Pete Browning.

The NAPC DPI Set was awarded the Winning Set for the second year running, this time by Judge, John Tilsley.  The five entries for the set were from Philip Gill, Paula Graham, Chris Marsham, Gordon Aspland and Alan Boothman.  Alan also won best DPI on the day with “Escape”, with Gordon’s “Camel Estuary” receiving a Highly Commended award.

April 9th 2011 - WCPF Audio-Visual Competition

Five members of the club entered this year, with seven AVs, and won three out of the four trophies.  Alan’s bull riding AV “Eight Seconds” won the 5 to 10 minute category plus the overall audience vote, while Chris Marshams’ “Artists Palette” received the innovation award for its creative use of mountain images.

April 8th 2011 – SDPL DPI Battle

The South Devon Photographic League DPI battle for the 2010 / 2011 season was won by Newton Abbot, which also gave the overall Season result to the Club for the third year running.

Final DPI scores on the night were NAPC 200, Exmouth 187, D&T 176, and Crediton 154.  Overall winning image on the night was Alan’s “Escape".  The aggregate scores, together with the Print Round results, were NAPC 449 from Exmouth 404 in second place.

March 23rd 2011 – NAPC v Torbay v Paignton

February 13th 2011 – WCPF inter-club Digital Projected Image Competition “DPIC”

Seventh again!  Must do better!

However congratulations to   Phil and Paula on their Highly Commendeds.  There were only six images scored higher in the whole competition.

February 10th 2011 – PAGB Great British Cup – Nature

Newton Abbot came 45th from 98 clubs who entered.  The position is determined from the best ten images, so we averaged 10.5 points.  Dorchester came 4th with an average of 12.3.

Chris Marsham scored 14 for his Emperor Family!!  So, many congratulations to him for that, and also our thanks for his perseverance in putting the Natural History entry together.

February 1st 2011 – PAGB Great British Cup - Open

We came 19th out of approximately 110 Clubs.  We were equal with Dorchester.  Six more points would have given us 9th.  This is a tough competition, but one in which we should still be able to go higher.

December 24th 2010 – 5th FIAP Clubs’ World Cup

For the fifth FIAP Clubs’ World Cup competition, we submitted twenty digital projected images from nine authors.  We came 33rd out of 124 entrants, dropping from 23rd in 2007.     Highest scoring image was “Kingfishers” by Paula (21).  We had Nine Acceptances (15+) overall.

November 3rd 2010 - SDPL Print Battle

The South Devon Photographic League print battle was held at Dawlish & Teignmouth, and was won by Newton Abbot with 245 points, followed by Exmouth with 217, Dawlish & Teignmouth with 213 and Crediton with 208.

Best print in the competition was “Padstow Beach” (20) by Gordon, with “Baywatch” achieving third (18) for Christina.  Newton Abbot had 10 out of 15 prints achieving 17 points or more!  Judge was Barrie Bluer.

May 8th 2010 Devon Clubs Print and Digitally Projected Image Battle

Newton Abbot Photographic Club hosted this event at the Courtenay Centre, with 14 of the Devon clubs taking part.

The Club Print Panel entry was on the theme of “Light at the end of the Tunnel”, and this achieved Third Place.  The five prints included were authored by Paula Graham, Alan Boothman, Gordon Aspland, Jean Ashworth, and Geoff Ashworth.  Gordon's print was placed as the second overall print in the competition.

The NAPC DPI Set was awarded the Winning Set by Judge, Barry Mead. The five entries for the set were from Meg Pickup, Phillip Gill, Paula, Geoff and Lynn Buckley.  Geoff also won best DPI on the day with “Chairs”, with Paula’s “At Full Speed” coming second.

April 20th 2010 – SDPL DPI Battle

On a back to back winning streak, the South Devon Photographic League DPI battle for the 2009 / 2010 season was won by Newton Abbot, which also gave the overall Season result to the Club for the second year running.

Final DPI scores on the night were NAPC 257, Exmouth 226, D&T 212, and Crediton 212.  Overall winning image on the night was Paulas’ “At Full Speed”, yet another first for this dramatic image.  The aggregate scores, together with the Print Round results, were NAPC 498 from Exmouth 447 in second place.

Our sincere thanks are due to Peter McMullin of Ivybridge Club who stepped in at the last moments to judge the competition.

March 16th 2010 – NAPC v Torbay Photographic Society

This was a return home match against Torbay following the very friendly away event last season.  There was a dramatic moment at the end of the Print round, when it was discovered that the scores were Exactly Equal!!  The leading Newton Abbot print was Trevor Ashfords’ “Abstract 2”, continuing his success with the new found style.

In the second half, Newton Abbot pulled away with their DPI entries, notably a second overall for “Watching over You”, a Chris Marsham image that has found favour with many judges.  Overall winner was “At Full Speed” by Paula.

This was probably one of the first occasions on which Professional Photographer, David Clapp, has judged at club level.  Whilst his style was unusually invigorating, it was an exciting evening, with new aspects and attitudes to modern photography brought to the fore.

February 15th 2010 – WCPF inter-club Digital Projected Image Competition “DPIC”

We submitted 25 digitally projected images from nine authors.  Geoff achieved Highly Commended with “chairs” and “Beach Bum”, with Highly Commended also for Paula’s “Kingfishers”, all with 13 points.  There was a strong entry of “nature” pictures from higher scoring clubs, which received high recognition from the judges, so despite our good showing in the creative categories we did not sustain our usual high scoring position this year, coming seventh out of the 47 clubs who entered.

January 23rd 2010 - WCPF Audio-Visual Competition

As suggested last year we put together a Club entry AV for this competition, and we called it “Camera People”.  Images, within the AV, came from 17 members of the club, including one in memory of John Baber.  Meg and Nigel provided narration and the creation was put together by Alan Boothman.  Combining the scores for this with Alan’s “Connecting” AV, the club won the Presidents Salver for the second time in four years.  Alan’s “Connecting” also won the individual cup and the MAD trophy for winning the audience popular vote.

It is hoped that we will put together another club AV for the competition next year.

January 10th 2010 – PAGB Great British Cup – Nature

Seven of our members entered a total of 20 images in this new event.  Individual image scores of 12 were recorded by Meg, Paula and Susan, plus a 13 from Susan for her image “Black Tailed Skimmer”.  Creditable scores of 11 were achieved by Phil, Chris Marsham, and Mike Crowe.  We came 42nd out of the 72 clubs who entered.

January 10th 2010 – PAGB Great British Cup - Open

The entry requirement was reduced to 18 images this year, and these were provided from seven club photographers.  Highest scores were gained by Paula with “An Exceptional Winter” and “At Full Speed”, and Geoff’s Beach Bum”.  In the third running of this event we came 36th out of the 92 clubs who entered.

December 11th 2009 - SDPL Print Battle

The South Devon Photographic League print battle was held at Exmouth Photo Group, and was won by Newton Abbot with 241 points, followed by Dawlish & Teignmouth with 226, Exmouth with 221 and Crediton with 210.

Best print in the competition was “On the Flat” (20) by Paula, followed by “Jaguar” (19) by Christina.  Paula also gained a 17 for “Looming up out of thick fog”, with two 17s for Phil’s “Large White” and “Paignton Pier”.

May 9th 2009 Devon Clubs Print and Digitally Projected Image Battle

The Club Print Panel entry was on the theme of “Ballet Dream”, and achieved an excellent Second Place.  The five prints included were authored by Geoff Ashworth, Paula Graham, Jean Ashworth, Gordon Aspland, and Mike Higgins.

It was apparently a very close decision between our panel and that of the eventual winner Plymouth.

Gordon's print was placed as the winning overall print in the competition, and Alan's "Golden Blue Trio" received a Highly Commended in the Digitally Projected Image section.

April 8th 2009 – SDPL DI Battle

After failing to win last year’s competition, due to a low result in the DPI round, the South Devon Photographic League DPI battle for the 2008 / 2009 season was closely won by Newton Abbot, which also gave the overall Season result to the Club.

Final DPI scores on the night were  NAPC 221, Exmouth 217, D&T 193, and Crediton 183.  Mike Crowe was the highest individual scorer, with a third place for his Digitally Projected Image “Cornered”.  17s were also achieved by Gordon, Alan and Paula.

The aggregate scores, together with the Print Round results, were NAPC 447 and Exmouth 425.

This gives Mike a hat-trick in the SDPL competition this season.  Cornered (DPI) / Loitering (Print) / and Out of the Mist (Print) achieved 18 / 19 / and 20 points respectively!!

February 15th 2009 – WCPF inter-club Digital Projected Image Competition “DPIC”

As holders of last years trophy, we submitted 25 digitally projected images from ten authors, and again no image scored less than ten points from the maximum 15.  Our overall position was fourth with 289, against Bristol, Dorchester and Plymouth who scored 305, 296 and 290 respectively.

Highest score was 14 for Alan’s “Golden Blue Trio”, with 13s for Paula’s “Green Frog and Reflection” and “Backlit Stork at dusk” plus Gordon’s “Gondolas facing church” and Jean’s “Station”.

February 11th 2009 – NAPC v Torbay Photographic Society

This “friendly” Print and Digitally Projected Image competition with our nearest “rivals” was notable for the friendly hospitality extended by Torbay.  The NAPC entry covered <strong>14 authors,</strong> and even included an image from a member of both clubs - Geoff Mullingers’ “Winter on the Moor”.  Torbay had arranged for a Herald Express reporter to be present, and his entertaining article can be read in the news section of our web-site.

Newton Abbot won both Print and Digitally projected image sections, picking up 20s for Geoff’s “Red Chair”, and Mike Crowe’s “Cornered”, with 19s for Mike’s “Laura”, Paula’s “Buzzard scanning territory” and “What a Picture”, plus Alan’s “Full House at Bristol” and Phil’s “Puffin”.

February 3rd 2009 – NAPC v Chorley Photographic Society

The format of this competition called for a single entry per member.  We achieved 39 images from 46 members at that time, which were judged against 39 images from the 60 members of Chorley Photographic Society.  Images were scored out of 10 by each of two judges – David Butler MFIAP, BPE* in the North, and Susan Brown FRPS in the South West, and the two scores aggregated to 20.  The overall result was 466 to 463 in favour of NAPC.  Top NAPC image was Gordon’s “Ben and his Dog”.

January 25th 2009 - WCPF Audio-Visual Competition

Rowland White and Alan Boothman each entered an AV this year.  The Club competition was won by Exmouth, with Sheila Haycox also winning in the individual category.

If any club member is interested in participating in AVs for joint club entry, please contact Alan, and we will look at the possibility of putting this together in the future.  Individual entries may be sent by any club member of course.

January 11th 2009 – PAGB Great British Cup

In the second running of this event we came 12th out of the 86 clubs who entered.  This was a tremendous result, particularly following the disappointing FIAP score.  Our position was higher than both Dorchester and Bristol, plus a number of the clubs who organise national and international Salons.  We submitted 20 images from nine authors, and the highest scoring images for NAPC were “Cornered” by Mike Crowe, and “Envy” by Geoff Ashworth.

December 31st 2008 – 3rd FIAP Clubs’ World Cup

For the second FIAP Clubs’ World Cup competition, we submitted twenty digital projected images from eleven authors.  We came 37th out of 123 entrants, dropping from 23rd last year.  Dorchester and Bristol did exceptionally well in 7th and 8th positions, making this season appear more difficult than last.  Highest scoring image was Puffin by Philip Gill.

December 11th 2008 - SDPL Print Battle

The South Devon Photographic League print battle was won by Newton Abbot with 225 points, followed by Exmouth with 217, Dawlish with 193 and Crediton with 184.  Mike Crowe excelled himself by having the top two prints of the competition – Loitering with 19, and Out of the Mist with 20 points!

Nov 8th 2008 – Kingswood Salver

The “Hoodie” pictures were entered as a Panel of five images for this WCPF organised competition, which was held at Warmley, Bristol.  The Kingswood competition entries and judging seemed to be of a higher standard than the Devon Clubs competition.  Awards were given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and three commendations.  Out of 25 entries NAPC received a Commendation, against excellent winning panels by Bristol and Reflex Club.  Paula’s entry “Night Pleasures” was also given a Commendation in the Individual Section.

May 17th 2008 – Devon Clubs Print and Digitally Projected Image Battle

The Club Print Panel entry was on the theme of “Hoodies”, and was judged as Highly Commended.  The five prints included were authored by Susan Young, Gordon Aspland, Paula Graham, Alan Boothman, and Mike Higgins.  Paula’s entry “Night Pleasures” was placed as second overall print in the competition.

April 11th 2008 – SDPL DI Battle

The South Devon Photographic League DI battle for the season was won by Exmouth, with Newton Abbot achieving second place.  Paula Graham gained top individual place in the competition with her digitally projected image “What a Picture”.

March 3rd 2008 – PAGB Great British Cup

For the first PAGB GB Cup, we submitted 20 images from ten authors.  The event attracted an entry of 2,860 images from 143 clubs.  NAPC were positioned 24th, scoring 205 points.  Winner was Wigan 10 with 249.  Highest scoring images for NAPC were “Morning checks by Mike Crowe, and “Calm Sea” by Geoff Ashworth.

February 17th 2008 - WCPF inter-club Digital Projected Image Competition “DPIC”

For the 2008 competition, we submitted 25 digital projected images from ten authors.  This is an increase of two authors over the previous year, and twice the minimum number of authors stipulated by WCPF.  The number of chosen authors indicates how the number of members producing work to external competition standard has increased within the club.

This year, with an entry of 43 clubs, we won the competition by a margin of 17 points!  Our average score was 10.7 points out of a maximum 15.  This is remarkable against the fact that no person from any club scored higher than 13.  Geoff Ashworth scored two 13’s, and his “altered reality” image “Musicians” won an individual award.  Geoff, Gordon Aspland (Venetian Canal) and Alan Boothman had a twelve each, with Alan’s “Drumsticks in Rhythm” being considered for, but missing, an individual award.  Nine “11s”, plus nine “10’s” completed the picture.

December 4th 2007 - SDPL Print Battle

The first South Devon Photographic League print battle, using the new format, was a close run affair won by Newton Abbot with 216 points, followed by Exmouth with 210, Dawlish with 199 and Crediton with 193.  Highest scoring Newton Abbot image was “Sunrise over the River” by Linda Pearson.

October 21st 2007 - WCPF Audio-Visual Competition

Since the incorporation of digital sequences, the Club has had considerable success in the WCPF AV competition.  Winner in 2005 was Paula Graham, repeated in 2006 through a joint entry with Alan Boothman.  They also collected the 2006 Club Trophy for Newton Abbot.  With a single entry this year, Alan Boothman achieved fourth place with “Racing the Oval”.

If any club member is interested in participating in AVs for joint club entry, please contact Alan, and we will look at the possibility of putting this together in the future.  Individual entries may be sent by any club member of course.

October 15th 2007 – 2ND FIAP Clubs’ World Cup

For the second FIAP Clubs’ World Cup competition, we submitted twenty digital projected images from eleven authors.  With a total score of 307 points, we came 23rd out of 137 entrants.  Top three positions went to Italian, French, and Spanish clubs respectively.  Highest UK clubs were Wigan 10, (last years’ winner), and Smethwick.  With 360 and 345 points respectively, we have reduced the gap.  Moving from 43rd in 2006 to 23rd in 2007 is also a significant achievement.  Highest scoring image was Chance Meeting by Jean Ashworth, whilst Geoff Ashworth and Ron Champion had equal top aggregate scores.

April 2007 – South Devon Photographic League season 2006/7

There has been a South Devon Photographic League since the 1979/80 season. At one time there were 8 clubs but over recent years this has been down to 4, Newton Abbot, Crediton, Exmouth and Dawlish and Teignmouth. Over the time Newton Abbot has won the league trophy no fewer than 15 times, more than double the next club.

Newton Abbot won all its matches in the 2006/7 season, though it was a close run thing with Exmouth.  During the year it was decided that the league needed to change, and so it was decided to finish with the old format of having six individual battles, and have just two battles involving all four clubs on the same night.  We had a trial run with a battle involving projected digital images, hosted by Crediton, which was won by Newton Abbot.
