NAPC Photo Competition, Round 4. March 4th 2008

Well, with the last round of the 2007/08 club competition over, it was a close run thing in all the categories.
Our judge for the final round was Hilary Phillips from Bude. A member of Launceston Camera Club, this was her first trip to Newton Abbot and she was warmly received by a relatively small turn out from the club.
Hilary’s comments were both constructive and fair and I think everyone appreciated the effort that she had put into her task.
With the print and the digital image sections both being hotly contested, her judgement was bound to cause reactions, whatever her decisions. In the end, the print worker for this season was Gordon Aspland who just edged out Alan Boothman by 2 points and Paula Graham by 4 points. His aggregate score of 132 out of a possible 160 is to be commended. Certainly, some of his Venice pictures are worthy of particular mention, in my opinion.
Paula fought all the way to the end, scoring an 18 and a 19 in the final round, with two superb prints. Alan was also pushing hard and he too gained excellent scores in the final round.
In the traditional slide section, once again the main battle was between Terry Jinks and Joy Medley. In the end, Terry emerged as the clear winner, despite a last round rally from Joy.
Sadly, this will probably be the last season that slide workers will compete separately to the digital workers, as, despite verbal support, there has again been a downturn in the number of entries for this section.
In the Digitally projected image section, competition was as fierce as ever. In the end, new member Philip Gill just squeezed ahead of Paula Graham with Alan Boothman and me contesting third place.

Noteworthy scores in this round of the competition were:

Prints
Mike Crowe “The Watchtower” 19 points
Paula Graham “Dog Walker” 19 points
Paula Graham “Skating Marathon” 18 points
Gordon Aspland “Gondola Abstract” 18 points

Slides
Joy Medley “Joppledy How” 18 points

Digital Images
Gordon aspland “Ben and his Dog” 19 points
Paula Graham “Parakeets in Kingston” 18 points
Philip Gill “Ringed Plover” 18 points

A big thank you to all those who have supported the club competitions over the past twelve months, without your involvement, it would have been very dull. If you didn’t win this time, I hope you have found the judges comments and critique useful and that seeing other members work has inspired you to have another go next season.

Don’t forget the Print and Slide of the Year Competition will be taking place shortly……..see the club programme page for details.
