Print and Slide of the Year 2007/8

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to support the Print and Slide of the Year Competition for 2008. It was really heartening to see so many of our newer members getting involved as well.
Secondly, I’m sure you will all join me in saying a big thank you to Nigel Cheffers –Heard from Exeter for an entertaining and well presented critique of our images. It is always a pleasure to receive constructive and informed opinion of our work and I’m sure we all benefited in some way from his comments.
This was the last ever competition at the club where slides will be viewed in their own right. From next season, slides and digitally projected images will be viewed under the general heading of “projected images”. There were a total of 8 slides entered for this competition and this reflects the general trend throughout this year.
The standard of entry should be commended though, with some excellent work being submitted.
In the colour print section, competition was fierce and a total of 21 prints were submitted for consideration. No less than a third of these were recognised by the judge with a commendation or better.
The mono print section was also well supported and 12 entries were received.
Despite a slight lull in the digital projected image section since the beginning of the season, there were still a very healthy 32 entries and the standard remains very high.

As you are aware, the clubs AGM will soon be upon us and I will be resigning from the committee at that time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the club competitions during my time as competition secretary. I would also encourage everyone to have a go next season. The club relies upon members to provide work for external competition and the best way to show what you can offer is to support the in house competitions and members evenings.
Please give your support to the new competition secretary and remember, they only invite the judge, they don’t decide what the judge will say!!

I would also remind you that entry forms for the competitions are available for download from this site………make sure you do it now so that you have them ready for next season!
