In addition to the programme of weekly Tuesday meetings throughout the season, NAPC has traditionally operated a number of “Digital Groups”, within which the various aspects of photography can be addressed in greater detail, and at a more leisurely pace than is possible on Club-nights. It is intended that this principle will continue, and it is reliant on the organisational effort of the group co-ordinators, whose past efforts are gratefully acknowledged by the Club.

Since “digital” now describes most of our photography, groups have been renamed with titles indicative of the special interests of the members concerned. With the diversity of interests, it is convenient for many of the groups to meet in member homes. Consequently numbers per group have to be limited, (normally 8), on a first come first served basis, involving only highly active members in each subject who are prepared to regularly attend. In the past, this problem has been alleviated by duplicating groups where necessary.

Photoshop Group

The Photoshop Group meets in public locations, designed to accommodate any number of club members wishing to attend. The group is about techniques - "how to". Using laptops and a digital projector, photo-editing techniques are studied in detail, and members individual methods of e.g. selection, and application of levels, curves, colour balance, monochrome, sharpening, blur, noise reduction, fractals, transforms and panoramas, are compared to the overall benefit of all the group.

Location Photography Group

This activity, consisting of organised outings, has traditionally been summer-based,. Some members wish to extend the activity throughout the year. Group numbers are not limited, but each registered member has a responsibility of circulating the others, by email, with event and other information of likely interest. Any group member may then act on this information to co-ordinate a location shoot for interested group members.

Natural Photography Group

This group is aimed at Digital SLR users and covers the issues relevant to them, particularly the obtaining of high image quality. However the group is also open to digital compact camera users who are interested in quality and integrity of image. This group is not intended for those interested in image manipulation or digital art. The group meets regularly for photographic outings and/or discussions in each others homes.

Digital Creativity & Techniques Group

A group of enthusiastic digital workers meet in each others homes to look at photographs and discuss various techniques. The group has just one rule, each person must bring along to the meeting at least a couple of prints / projected images to look at.....they usually bring many more ! The aim of the group is to give feedback to the photographer and to discuss the latest techniques and skills.

Audio-Visual Group

A home based group, with pc, audio and digital projection facilities, which concentrates on the making of Audio-Visual presentations using the latest software versions of PicturesToExe and ProShow Gold. All members of the group are multi-AV active, and wish to improve on their expertise. Activities include the making of individual and multi-member AVs for Club presentation and external competitions.

Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups are in addition to club meetings.

Large Groups meet in public locations, as required, or go out together on photographic outings.

Small groups of members meet in each other's homes.

The groups are an ideal way to get to know other members and to share interests and problems.
